The Ukpeh Life Model

Four selves, one core, a whole life.

A practical map for knowing yourself, living intentionally and becoming more.

The Model

One picture of a whole person.

The Ukpeh Life Model diagram: Private, Public, Perceived and Potential selves arranged around the Core Self

The Ukpeh Life Model places four selves around one centre. The private self is the life you live when no one is watching. The public self is what the world actually meets. The perceived self exists in other people's minds. The potential self is the person you are still becoming.

At the centre sits the core self: your essence, identity, purpose and character. It is the foundation that connects everything else. When the four selves are aligned with it, life feels whole. When they drift apart, something feels wrong even when everything looks fine.

The model is a tool for noticing that drift early, and for choosing, deliberately, the kind of person you are becoming in each part of your life.

The Four Selves

Know yourself. Live intentionally. Become more.

Private Self

Harness the power in existence

  • Manage your mind
  • Build supporting relationships
  • Maintain health (physical, emotional, financial)
  • Protect yourself

The private self is the life you live when no one is watching. It is the mind you think with, the relationships that steady you, the health that carries everything else, and the boundaries that keep you safe. Strength here is quiet, but every other self draws on it.

Be Well

Public Self

Manifest your inner power

  • Appearance
  • Competence
  • Communication
  • Disposition

The public self is what the world actually meets: how you present yourself, what you can do, how you speak and how you carry your temperament. None of it is accidental. Each part is chosen, practised and offered on purpose.

Be Intentional

Perceived Self

Be aware of what you trigger in others

  • Tame your replies
  • Interact respectfully
  • Persuasion
  • Know your limits

The perceived self lives in other people's minds, and you do not control it directly. You only influence it: by taming your replies, treating people with respect, persuading rather than forcing, and knowing where your limits lie.

Be Considerate

Potential Self

The path to a virtue

  • The Path: from where you are to where you want to be
  • Getting there: strategies, learning, discipline and action

The potential self is the person you are still becoming. It asks two questions: where are you going, and how will you get there? The answer is never inspiration alone. It is strategy, learning, discipline and steady action.

Be Greater
